A natural storyteller, Dana Petras has spent an uncountable number of years pouring her heart and soul onto the page. Telling stories that are entertaining and illuminating. Wrapping facts and sometimes harsh realities in a comforting coating of curiosity, adventure, and fun. With a spirit like a nomad, Dana has had many adventures, investigating, acquiring knowledge, and uncovering details regarding the planet and its functioning. This feeds back into her tales. Especially her multi-year labor of love, Ratnapped, and its sister books and spin-offs.
Before writing for kids, inspired by the likes of Coraline and Where the Wild Things Are, placing her in notable company, Dana started out writing movie scripts. Her lush, vivid, cinematic sensibility, honed by putting the images in her head onto the page, making its way into all her other work as well. Dana is definitely what Temple Grandin has called a “visual thinker.” Engaging audiences of all ages and modalities.
When Dana is not writing, she goes out with her camera, capturing the beauty and mystery of the world with the earnest intensity of a seasoned photo-journalist. She also loves exploring cities by bicycle, discovering hidden streets, neighborhoods, parks, and unexpected moments that often spark ideas for new stories.
Dana has completed the main Ratnapped series up to this point. She is still hard at work on new book and film projects and does not intend to slow down until she crafts and releases every story she needs to tell into the world for everyone to enjoy!
