In New York, I call a remarkable woman the “Bird Lady.” Every day, she feeds pigeons and ducks by the Hudson River, using her own funds to provide the food. Her generosity extends beyond birds, as she unintentionally feeds nearby rats and fish as well. Despite the harsh winters and the challenges of her selfless work, she never seeks public assistance or crowdfunding.
When she encounters injured pigeons, she takes them to the vet, although it’s heartbreaking to hear that some vets have been euthanizing them. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with her numerous times, and she’s connected with many famous actors due to her past work. I even had the chance to give her copies of my children’s book, Ratnapped, and some tote bags.
I often find myself wondering what drives someone to dedicate each day to feeding God’s creatures. The answer is a heart full of love and generosity. Her unwavering commitment to these animals is truly inspiring.
Have you ever met someone who dedicates themselves selflessly to helping others, whether people or animals?
