Red Light! Stop!

by | Nov 30, 2024

When I moved to New York City, I embarked on an adventure that reshaped my perspective in ways I never imagined. I created a vlog where I would interview people on the streets of New York, asking them random questions. Over time, I spoke with more than 500 individuals—and even filmed dogs along the way! It became one of the best experiences of my life.

I vividly remember my very first interview. I was sitting on the grass in Central Park, nervously clutching my little card with the question I planned to ask. My heart raced with excitement and anxiety. To my surprise, the very first person I approached said yes! That moment was all about being brave, and little did I know how much courage it would take to step out of my comfort zone.

At that time, I chose not to show my face or use my name in the vlog. I wanted to keep this project private, sharing it only with a few close friends and my sister. It felt like a personal journey of discovery, allowing me to explore the thoughts and stories of strangers without the influence of my own identity.

The Spark of Inspiration

The idea for this project actually began back in Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve always believed you can learn a lot from the person sitting next to you on the subway or on the streets. Everyone has a story—a unique perspective that adds to the colorful tapestry of our world.

Speaking of Colors: Let’s Talk About RED

When we think of red, we often have emotionally intense responses. Red is an extreme color that attracts attention and compels us to stop. It signifies passion, danger, love, and urgency.

What does RED mean to you?

  • Is it the color of your favorite sweater that boosts your confidence?
  • Is it the stop sign reminding you to pause and reflect?
  • Or perhaps it’s the blush of excitement you feel in a moment of connection with someone new.

Reflect and Share

I encourage you to take a moment and think about your associations with red. How does this color resonate with your own experiences? Just as my journey in New York City has deeply resonated with me, I believe your stories hold value too.

Through my interviews, I discovered that everyone interprets life differently, just as we all have unique feelings about colors. Let’s embrace those differences and learn from one another.
