Growing up in Australia, we used to eat Vegemite on crackers, enjoy hot pies, fairy bread, and indulge in the best candy, which we called lollies. When I moved back to America, I couldn’t understand how people would eat potato chips with sandwiches or have peanut butter and jelly. I eventually grew to love potato chips with sandwiches, but trying peanut butter and jelly took me a while. I had my very first one in New York, which was delicious. I couldn’t believe it took me over 15 years to try it!
It’s always good to try something new, like different foods, and experience new cultures. Although every state in America has restaurants from various countries, it was much more accessible in New York, where I only had to take the subway or walk.
Beyond food, I’ve also been exploring new creative endeavors. I wrote a children’s book called Ratnapped and am still working on my movie script. These projects have been an exciting way to step out of my comfort zone and dive into new possibilities—just like trying peanut butter and jelly for the first time!
Have you ever tried something new—food or a creative adventure—that surprised you?
