Embracing New York: How the City Helped Me Find My True Self

by | Mar 23, 2025

When I first moved to New York, I lacked confidence, shaped by a conservative upbringing. With the support of my family, I decided to take the leap. After a year or two, I immersed myself in the city’s vibrant activities—meet-ups, Toastmasters, improv classes, Aerial Silks, baking, video editing, and earning five medical credentials. Each experience helped me grow and discover who I truly was.

Writing and directing my children’s book, creating a movie script, and running my vlog, Paint the Town Red, further boosted my confidence. People often stopped me on the streets, asking if I was an actor or dancer, complimenting my beauty. These moments made me realize how much I had transformed, both inside and out. I shed the self-judgment I once carried and embraced how God created me, learning that true beauty comes from within.

I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. My love for New York, its people, and its energy is deep and lasting.
