A Citizen of the World: Embracing Global Adventures

Since I was two years old, I’ve been on the move. My travels have taken me across continents, allowed me to call four countries home, and introduced me to various cultures. This nomadic lifestyle has given me a unique perspective—an education in the diversity of human experience that no book alone can provide.

One day, during a conversation at one of Ohio’s leading hospitals, I was sharing stories with colleagues when a young nurse remarked on how fortunate I was. Her path had led her directly from high school to college and into a career with little room for travel. Her words made me reflect on how different our journeys are and how each path—whether filled with movement or stability—offers its own lessons and opportunities.

The challenges of frequently moving and adapting to new places taught me resilience and the invaluable skill of making anywhere feel like home. There was a time when I felt an irresistible pull to see Paris, Rome, and other European gems despite needing more funds. I took a leap, financed the whole trip on a credit card, and paid it off within a month. It was a risky decision, but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Traveling isn’t just about visiting new places—it’s about the perspectives we gain and the person we become along the way. While I don’t recommend taking on debt lightly, I believe in seizing opportunities to explore when they arise. Life is fleeting, and those transformative experiences, whether in a distant land or our own backyards, help us evolve from mere residents of a place to actual citizens of the world.
